Subject: Consultancy – Business Plan Development
Background
E4Impact Foundation is one of the implementing partners in the ARABIKA project. ARABIKA stands for Action to Re-Launch Agriculture and Branding Internationalization of Kenyan Coffee in and out of Africa and the project focuses on the coffee supply chain by acting on the quality improvement component, capacity building of 21 farmer cooperatives and branding / marketing of their coffee produce. The cooperatives are distributed among 7 counties namely: Meru, Embu, Machakos, Murang’a, Bungoma, Kiambu and Nyeri.
As part of the capacity building activities, we are looking to engage a consultant for the development of business plans for the 21 cooperatives under the project. The consultant will be responsible for implementing the following tasks:
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- To assess the current governance structure and revenue generation activities of the coffee cooperatives.
- To analyze the challenges the cooperatives face in accessing capital.
- To address risk mitigation factors and assess loan default rates.
- To review the cooperatives’ liquidity management tools and ensure they are adequate to facilitate swift decision-making.
- To conduct an analysis of the cooperatives’ business model and performance and ascertain how a business plan will improve their revenue model.
- To assess direct coffee marketing capabilities and preparedness of the cooperatives.
- Report on the findings of the assessment activities and other study activities.
- To develop business plans for all 21 cooperatives with special attention to their products and services.
Experience and Competencies
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, commerce, entrepreneurship or related sectors.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in activities related to the coffee value chain in Kenya.
- Knowledge of the coffee sector in Kenya, especially with regards to coffee cooperatives.
- Good command of English and Kiswahili languages.
